I've heard a lot of buzz recently about a new golf bag from Sunday Golf called the Loma, so I picked one up and have been using it for a couple of months so that I could share with you what this bag is all about.
We are going to be covering a lot of information, from the features and specifics of the Loma bag to the pros and cons and who this bag is for.
Over the years, I have used just about every type and brand of golf bag you could imagine. Ping Hoofer? Obviously. Titleist Players? Definitely. Sun Mountain carry bag? For sure. What I can confidently say is that I have never used a golf bag quite like the Loma.
Here's what I found:

Sunday Golf Loma Bag Review Summary
The Evolution Of The Sunday Golf Bag
There was a time when what we call a “Sunday bag” was just called a golf bag. It was a small, less adapted version of what we think of today. Players back in the days of Francis Ouimet and Walter Hagen really only needed a bag that could carry their clubs and a few balls, nothing more.

But as with all things, time marches on and culture changes. In today’s game, a casual round of golf with your friends involves some combination of speakers, tees, training aids, cameras, tripods, phones, chargers, cigars - along with lighters and cutters - larger than life water bottles, and probably a couple of cans of your favorite adult beverage. Let me be the first to say good luck fitting all that into a golf bag from 1912.
None of that is to say any of those things should be left at home. It’s a great things that we keep finding new and exciting ways to make golf more fun! But there are those of us who also enjoy a casual stroll on a Sunday evening (or any other day for that matter) just us and the golf course. Without all the need for accessories or a backache in the morning, a lightweight golf bag is a perfect companion. This concept of a small bag with small pockets and only enough room for 9-11 clubs is the origin of the Sunday bag.
There are so many scenarios where a bag with very little storage space, and very little weight makes sense. We will talk about them in detail later, but think Par 3 courses, emergency 9’s, and long practice sessions.

Introducing The Loma Golf Bag From Sunday Golf
I love when a company isn’t afraid to reinvent the wheel. That’s what it feels like this San Diego based company has done with the Loma golf bag.
A traditional Sunday bag is sort of lackluster. It looks a bit dated, barely has enough room to fit a half dozen balls and all your head covers, and - most distinctly - doesn’t have a stand.
The Loma bag by Sunday Golf is just the opposite. Don’t let it’s miniscule size fool you, there is a sneaky amount of storage space to fit all of your important valuables. While you won’t cram all 14 clubs into it, the Loma comfortably fit 9 for more, and that includes my super fat SuperStroke putter grip. And most importantly, it has a stand! Because what is the point of hoofing it with a super lightweight bag if you have to touch your toes every time you want to pick it up?

What Is The Loma Golf Bag Used For?
Now don’t get me wrong, this isn’t the golf bag you want to bring to a 36 hole golf-a-thon with your friends. But there are plenty of times when the small, lightweight Loma is going to be your best option. The situations we are going to talk about don’t involve a golf cart, simply because the walking golfer is the one a Sunday bag is designed for in the first place!
Par 3 Courses
Par 3 courses are some of my favorites. They offer the ability to play the game I love, even in a pinch. Oftentimes, the architect of a par 3 course will pour their heart and soul into the green complexes knowing that they will be the make or break characteristic of their work.
The one thing I never liked about par 3 courses was the idea of carrying all 14 clubs around when I only plan on using 4 or 5. And you can’t just take the ones you don’t need and put them in the trunk of your car. The golf bag just feels awkward when you do that!
The Loma golf bag is the perfect playing partner for any par 3 golf course. It easily fits those 5 or so clubs that you need, it never feels awkward to carry, and you will save enough energy to make that putt on the last hole to win your match!
Walking 9 or 18 Holes
I have always been a fan of walking the golf course. It’s great exercise, and there is more of an opportunity to experience the course the way it has been designed.
Having said that, there is nothing worse than climbing to the last green on a hot day, thanking your lucky stars that your next walk is to the clubhouse. Your shoulders and feet ache, you have sweat pouring down you, and all you want to do is sit in the air conditioning.
Imagine walking up to that same last green with a spring in your step, ready to go another few holes.
Driving Range Practice
Most of the time, I don't hit every club when I go to the driving range. The most important shots in golf are the tee shots and approach shots, which usually include hitting woods, short irons, and wedges.
I put my driver, 3 wood, and 7 wood in the Loma as well as my 9 iron, pitching wedge, 52, 56, and 60 degree. Add in the putter and you get to that 9 club capacity with enough equipment for a full and productive practice session!
Don’t get me wrong, the mid and long irons still need practice. I tend to practice with them less given that I mostly only use them for my second shot on par 5’s, or exceptionally long par 4’s. This offers a little insight into strategic practice as well - when you have limited time, get really good at the shots you use more often rather than trying to practice everything.
Short Game Practice

I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I practice short game, carrying my whole bag to the practice area feels like a waste. I want a couple of wedges, maybe my putter, and some golf balls.
If this is you, the Loma is the ideal bag for you. I filled the Loma with my practice wedges (yes I have an extra set of wedges that I practice with) and headed out to the golf course. It was such a relief to not have to juggle all of my other equipment and lug around a heavy bag just to go hit short game shots for a couple of hours.
With the 9 club capacity, you can carry all the way up to your mid irons to work on those pesky bump and runs, too!

Golf Trips
I was a caddy at Streamsong Resort in the middle of Florida for about 6 months before the COVID pandemic shut the world down. There were two kinds of players that stood out to me while I was there - the guy with the golf bag that belonged in Gold’s Gym, and the guy who’s bag felt like a helium balloon.
Hint: be like the second guy if you’re going on a trip where you will have a caddy.
But beyond being your caddy’s new best friend, there is another important aspect of going on golf trips that people often forget - flying with golf clubs. Sure, you could use a golf club shipping service if you want to pay the extra fees. For those of us who like our clubs to be on the same plane as us, the pesky weight limit is always a stressor. With a Loma bag from Sunday Golf, you will come in under that magic number every single time.

The Loma Bag Features
There are a number of cool features that I want to touch on. A total of 5 pockets ensure that there is plenty of room to carry all of your essentials. I’ve elaborated on some of the more important features, but don’t forget about the Velcro glove holder, tee holder, the super comfortable included strap, the built in carry handle, or the full length divider between the two club slots.
Ultra Lightweight
At less than 2 pounds on it’s own - 1.95 to be exact - the Loma golf bag is by far the lightest stand bag on the market. Other “lightweight” bags on the market sit around 4 pounds, and some even push closer to 5 or 6. When you consider that those larger bags also include more storage, they can get heavy in a hurry. I have been known to push 25 pounds with my normal carry bag.
Waterproof Zippers
Especially when you walk and play golf, sometimes you just get caught in the rain. Sunday Golf has you covered with waterproof zippers installed into all the pockets of the Loma bag. You won’t have to worry about any of your valuables being ruined by the water while you run for cover - or play through the storm if that’s what you prefer!

The Frosty Pocket
Aptly named, the Frosty Pocket is a lined cooler pocket that will keep your beverages - adult or otherwise - cold. It is designed with enough depth to fit two 12 ounce cans. I found that, as long as the pocket is zipped shut - drinks stay cold plenty long enough to sip your way through them!
Expert tip - the liner in the Frosty Pocket is waterproof. Dump some ice in there if you want your drinks to be extra chilled!
Velour Lined Valuables Pocket
This one is especially cool to me. The velour that Sunday Golf used to line the valuables pocket gives the vibe of red velvet, which feels very VIP. Screens, watch faces, and other valuables that might scratch will be well protected as they interact with the soft velour, and the pocket is placed in a location where it won’t be easily jostled.
DualFlex Stand System
The Loma Golf Bag is the only sunday bag I have found that includes a full length stand. This is a big feature for me. The other sunday bags I’ve used in the past were fine, but the hassle of putting them on the ground never sat right with me.
Beyond having to bend over to pick it up, those bags always dirtied and wore out so much faster. And what if I want to play early in the morning? The stand on the Loma ensures that my things stay dry from the dew on the grass.
Many people wouldn’t consider the stand a major feature of the Loma golf bag, but I certainly do.

My Experience Using The Sunday Golf Loma Bag
You might be able to tell by the tone I’ve taken that I enjoyed my experience with the Loma Bag.
I could carry it all day, and it is the perfect bag for some of my more leisurely practice sessions. The single strap design makes for an easy on and off the shoulder mechanic, and I am a BIG fan of the Frosty Pocket.
We’ll take a deeper dive into the things that I liked and the things I didn’t, but I am a firm believer that the Loma is worth every penny of its $134.99.
What I Like About The Loma Bag By Sunday Golf
There is a lot that I like about the Loma bag:
The lightweight design makes it easy for me to carry around all day. I truly feel like I could walk 36 holes and not feel the fatigue.
The valuables pocket ensures that I never have to worry about my phone, watch, or anything else during my time on the course.
The Frosty Pocket keeps my drinks fresh and cold, making sure that I am constantly hydrated and satisfied.
5 pockets around the bag ensure that I can carry everything that I need for a normal round of golf. I am able to carry all of the essentials, my valuables, some rain gear, and small training aids all without issue.
What I Don’t Like About The Loma Sunday Bag
I have never used a piece of equipment that I felt was perfect, and in the spirit of honesty there are a couple of features on the Loma bag that aren’t my favorite:
- The built in carry handle is a little too bulky for me. While it is a great feature for the ease of picking up and putting down the Loma, I find that it occasionally digs into my hip as I walk and leaves me moving the bag into a bit of an awkward position.
- If there is such a thing as being too light, this bag might have accomplished it. I find that the Loma gets a little top heavy unless I make sure to add some weight to the ball pocket and the Frosty Pocket. The first time I used the Loma, I almost dumped my clubs in the parking lot.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I really like the Sunday Golf Loma Bag. While it is not a perfect golf bag, there really isn’t such a thing.
As with other small golf bags, it lacks a little bit of storage space for some of the larger accessories that you might want on the golf course.
The positives far outweigh the negatives with the Loma. Walking the golf course is a great way to get some exercise and fresh air, and the Loma makes walking so much more accessible. Whether you want to play a par 3 course, an emergency 9, or even head out to do some short game work, this Sunday Golf bag is extremely versatile.
As for me, one of my career goals is to play the Masters. If I'm lucky enough to reach that goal, I’ll be bringing my Loma bag with me for the Par 3 Contest!
